Why the next generation of top smartphones need UFS 4.0

Universal Flash Storage, also known as UFS, is one of the most common types of storage formats, such as NVMe or eMMC, used on smartphones. UFS has now reached version 4.0 and will be available on the latest high-end Android smartphones from now on.

According to the data transfer speed, UFS 4.0 is very fast compared to UFS 3.1 in the previous generation. UFS 4.0 has a read speed of 4,200MB / s and a write speed of 2,800MB / s, while UFS 3.1 has a read speed of 2,100MB / s and a write speed of 1,200MB / s. It should be noted that the eMMC 5.1 storage available on most budget smartphones has a read speed of 250MB / s and a write speed of 125MB / s.

Why the next generation of top smartphones need UFS 4.0

Currently, smartphones running UFS 4.0 include the vivo X90 Pro + / X90 Pro all GB options and the X90 option 256 / 512GB, while the X90 128GB option still uses UFS 3.1. In addition, Xiaomi 13/13 Pro also uses the next generation UFS 4.0 for the 256 / 512GB option, but the 128GB option also gets UFS 3.1.
